The Bishop of the Victorian District Lutheran Church installed Pastor Carl Richter at a special service held at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on Sunday evening.

After five years of study at the Australian Lutheran College in Adelaide, Pastor Carl Richter was ordained in December 2019 and appointed to serve at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Mildura. Although only 28 years old, Pastor Carl had already completed a Commerce Accounting Degree at Adelaide University and had worked as a financial consultant for the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Papua New Guinea before studying to be a pastor.

Pastor Carl met his wife Sarah when they were both studying at Adelaide University, where she was completing a degree in Classical Piano Performance. They have been married for four years and have a daughter Emilie who is almost one. Sarah has most recently completed a Nursing Degree at the University of South Australia. Pastor Carl says he enjoys playing sports, riding motorcycles and beekeeping.

“I am excited about getting to build relationships with members of the congregation, the school and the wider community and I am looking forward to being able to practically apply what I have learnt through the course of my studies.”

He thinks that a challenging aspect of being a pastor in Mildura will be keeping his clerical gown white, in the midst of all the dust storms.
