At Trinity Lutheran College we offer the International Baccalaureate curriculum and support its philosophy from P – 10.

Who / What is IB?

The International Baccalaureate, formerly known as the International Baccalaureate Organisation, is an international educational foundation headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, and founded in 1968.

It offers four educational programmes: the IB Diploma Programme (Diploma) and the IB Career-related Programme for students aged 15 to 19, the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) for students aged 11 to 16, and the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) for children aged 3 to 12. To teach these programmes, schools must be authorised by the International Baccalaureate.

The objective of their first programme – Diploma – was to “provide an internationally acceptable university admissions qualification suitable for the growing mobile population of young people whose parents were part of the world of diplomacy, international and multi-national organisations” by offering standardised courses and assessments for students aged 16 to 19.

How is IB education different?

IB is an educational model that supports students to develop the tools for lifelong learning while fostering responsible attitudes that help students discover how to use what they learn to take principled action. By giving children the strategies and capabilities to address any subject we believe we are providing them with thinking skills essential for success in the 21st century and beyond.

The IB Learner Profile is the attributes and outcomes of education that IB aspires for its graduates in order for them to be of international-mindedness. Thus. IB learners strive to be: Thinkers, Communicators, Principled, Reflective, Open minded, Balanced, Risk-takers, Inquirers, Caring, and Knowledgeable. The learner profile is the basis for all four IB programmes.

Why IB for Trinity

Recognising that, due to many developments, the world is shrinking while global opportunities are expanding, Trinity Lutheran College decided in 2017 that we needed to ensure our learning program gave our students the best grounding in education that would be internationally recognised and globally portable. Thus, we took measures to enable our school to incorporate the IB Framework into our curriculum which is also mapped to National and Victorian standards and the Australian Lutheran Education Framework. Today, our all-encompassing educational offering focuses on the whole learner and ensures a quality education for our students.

Trinity’s Accreditation Journey (IB)

In 2018 Trinity Lutheran College started the process of becoming an IB School, adding the IB teaching framework progressively to the curriculum over the ensuing 3 years. Since then our PYP has been authorised in 2020 making Trinity an official IB World School. In 2022, Trinity Lutheran College became an authorised MYP school, resulting in Trinity Lutheran College being the only official IB school from P – 10 in the Sunraysia region.
